Choosing a picture for our stories

Our students are working hard to use the sight words they know in sentences. They are also learning to use either their word card and/or phonemic knowledge to help with unfamiliar words. Here are some stories...

Fireworks

We focused our writing today on what students learnt yesterday about ways to be safe around fires and fireworks as 'Guy Fawkes Day' is coming up...

Safety Tips:
1. Never touch fireworks
2. Stand well back from a bonfire (students acted this out in a circle with one in the middle acting as the fire...)

This is too close...

A better distance...

3. Never go near a firework after it has been lit
4. Only hold one sparkler at a time
5. Wear gloves when holding a sparkler
6. Keep pets indoors

Students coloured a picture from the 'Quiver' website and used the app to bring their picture to live...

Challenge:

Take a photo of your quiver and save it to the camera roll. Open 'Write About This NZ' and add your photo. Write about being safe around fireworks.

Writing about 'Feelings'

Students listened to a story about ‘Getting Along’ and what they can do to solve a problem. Throughout the story they were able to make connections to our focus on 'Friends stand Together' with our 'Cyber Bullying' / Digital Citizenship topic over the last two weeks.

Students used their iPads and the Write About This NZ app to write stories about 'Feelings'. They had to make up a story using 'think, pair, share'.
