On Tuesday, 18 May, Rooms 1 and 4 did a science experiment together. We had a question that we wanted to answer, our question was: "Is my shadow the same all day long?"
To answer the question we decided to look at a shadow at different times during the day and to see if it stayed the same or changed. To make it a 'fair test' we kept everything the same except for one thing.
Things we kept the same: The person. The place. The way we drew the shadow.
Things we changed: The time we drew the shadow.
Results: At 9:00 there was no sun, so we had no shadows.
At 10:00 Carly's shadow was long.
At 11:00 it was shorter and had moved round.
At 12:00 it was even shorter and had moved round further.
At 1:00 it was the same size as 12:00, but had moved round further.
At 2:00 it was longer again and had moved round some more.
We learned that our shadows change size and position during the day.
