Phonics

Students worked on the letter 's' today. They listened to the first sound while looking at the picture card, read the letter and wrote the letter in response to hearing the sound on their whiteboards.

Afterwards, students found pictures starting with 's', cut it out and paste it onto a sheet.

Inquiry #1 - Creativity: Lego Bridges

Mrs Fitzgerald discussed with our students what 'Creativity' means. They then listened to the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’

Students created bridges with 3 block stacks  (small, medium, and large) using lego and paper [strong enough] to balance a cut out goat on.

Students that got stuck were encouraged to built two 'pillars' using the blocks and then set the paper on top for the goats to walk across. Lots of trial and error...!

Position and Orientation: Left and Right

Our students were learning about left and right hands. We played Simons says, e.g Simon says touch a table with your left hand, Simon says  touch something yellow with your left hand.

Students had a red band around their left hand to help them remember it is their left hand and a blue band around their right hand to help them remember it is their right hand.

Students then got a buddy to draw around the hand that they write with. We found out that there is 2 left handed people and 9 right handed people in Room 4. They then completed a worksheet.

Discovery Time / STEAM - Coding #4

We had our last 'Coding' session for the term. In the sessions, students were introduced to several principles of programming. They practiced concepts like 'sequence' and 'loops' without typing or coding.

It was great to see how students used problem solving skills to complete the 'challenges'.
