The Cultural Festival

How do they put the box together?

Today during our Inquiry, we took a tissue box apart to see what it looks like before we buy it in a shop.

There were many cuts and folds in it. We had fun putting it back together and realised that we could not have done it if there was a cut or fold missing.

Mobile library

The mobile library visited our school as part of our 'Reading Together' programme. Students enjoyed the opportunity of getting their own library cards and choosing books to take home.

Look closely and remember

WALT look closely and remember what we see in Maths.

We looked at images quickly and drew what we remembered on our page. After a while we could look again to check and some of us made some changes. Then we shared and discussed our images.

We also played some games with bells in a bag to make sums to 5 and to 10. Some of us also used egg boxes to make sums.

We had fun with our learning!

Inventing baskets

Room 4 has been learning about inventions. We read the story about 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' and then they had to 'invent' their own baskets.

The task was to use two pieces of paper, scissors, tape or glue and decorations to create a basket. No template was given.

They've used excellent creativity, problem solving and thinking skills to create their beautiful baskets.

Manu Tukutuku

Room 4 has been very fortunate to have been working with our art teacher, Whaea Jude this term. They've had many wonderful experiences.

For their latest art, they have been learning to:

• Understand the partnership between the earth and the sky
• Use some new Maori words: manu, tukutuku, rakau, harakeke
• Create a kite-based piece of art.

In the end they mastered many skills which included; using twigs of different sizes to create a kite shape over the paper template to create their own connection between earth and sky, stick supporting cardboard frame on the back, add decorations and a string.

Our 'Persuasive' letters

Whaea Kate helped us to write letters to Mr Taylor and Ms van der Spuy. We asked them if we could have a pet for Room 4 and they both said yes!

We wonder what's going to happen next and what kind of pet we will get. Will it be a real one or a soft toy?
