New Zealand Sign Language #4

Today I taught Room 4 how to sign "How are you?" and "I'm feeling _____ ." I have been very impressed by the way they have been learning to use the Key Competencies of "Thinking" and "Using, Language, Symbols and Text."

They displayed the virtues of 'Excellence" and "Perseverance" when learning about this new language this week.

Our Room 4 and 5 students used the Key Competencies of 'Participating and Contributing', 'Thinking', 'Using Language, Symbols and Text' when they revisited all that they've learned in sign language so far. They displayed the virtue of excellence when signing their names and also how old they are...

Then they learned how to sign where they live...
 

Our next step is to learn to sign all this in one go...
1. Greet someone
2. Signing our names
3. Signing how old we are
4. Signing where we live.

Today Tracey showed us how to sign numbers to 20! We are using our Key Competencies and Virtues and practise very hard!

New Zealand Sign Language #1

It is New Zealand Sign Language week! We are very fortunate to have our office manager, Tracey who've done a NZSL course. Ms van der Spuy asked her to teach our Rooms' 4 and 5 students the alphabet and some phrases.

Tracey told us that our face tells a story to someone who is deaf.

We learned:

1. To sign the alphabet

2. To say...

"Good morning everybody"


"Good morning teacher"

"Good morning Mother / Father"


We are learning to sign "My name is..."

Our students worked hard and displayed the virtue of perseverance. They used the Key Competencies of 'Using Language, Symbols and Texts' and 'Participating and Contributing'.
