STEAM - Wetland #5

Our STEAM sessions for this term is based around our Wetland Inquiry. Students opted into sessions of their choice. Today students made their finishing touches to their Wetland mural in Room 4.

Digital Citizenship/Cyber Safety #4 (2018)

This week we talked about how our feelings can sometimes tell us when a situation is not safe, or if we should not trust someone. ‘The Info Gang’ video from 'Hector's World' was a great help to introduce this concept.
Students were learning to always listen to the clues that their feelings are sending to them. They were starting to understand that it is a good idea to ask help from the people they trust when their feelings send them a message that something is wrong.

Ohaaki Wetland

The Junior School visited the Ohaaki Wetland as part of our Inquiry. Our students had a great day and learned many things from John (from Fish and Game) who took the time to talk to the students about how the wetland was made and how it is slowly sinking, the pests in the wetland and all the birds...

On the other side of the Wetland is the Waikato River and a maimai

Cultural Festival: Kapa Haka

Our Junior students (Year 1 - 3) used the Key Competencies of 'Participating and Contributing', 'Managing Self', Using Language, Symbols and Text' as well as the virtues of 'Excellence', Confidence and 'Courage' when performing their waiata on stage at our yearly Cultural Festival. Well done to you all, you made us proud!

Thank you to all our parents / whānau who came to support us and to Matua Grant who helped us during our weekly practices.

Marae visit

What a great time we had, visiting our local Marae! Students were also involved in a number of activities to celebrate Matariki.
