Bunnies

Room 4 students had to decorate a bunny with lines that are on an angle, wavy, curly, straight and spiral. Some of them also chose to use crosses for this task. They then had to choose a pair of 'glasses' and used a colour felt or colour pencils to colour them. Finally they cut out their bunny and glasses (with help) and glued the pieces on their chosen coloured paper.

Students had an opportunity today to choose anything / activities they would like to be involved in. I have been impressed with the self-discipline and responsibility they displayed.

Choices were:

Writing 'Funny Stories', Drawing, Making Cards, Construction with the Building Blocks, practicing Rhyming Words and to play with some educational toys.

Learning how to use Book Creator

Today we were fortunate to have Mr Kennard visiting in Room 4. He taught our students how to use Book Creator.

He started with the story 'Dragons, Dragons, Dragons' and students had to think about some questions to ask the dragons...

Reflecting on Term 1 with KidsedchatNZ

Today our students participated with their buddy class in the last KidsedchatNZ for this term.

Kapa Haka

Our involvement in learning waiata and Kapa Haka with Matua Grant continued this term...

Inquiry #4 - Community: Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga

This morning students learned about different people in our community, they looked at how they help in our community and what their roles are. They learned that these people work together to help our community. 

Students then discussed with a learning buddy What they want to be when they grow up.

Gingerbread Families

In this session students order a family of gingerbread men from shortest to tallest, using a variety of measuring words.

They discuss the gingerbread family and Mrs Fitzgerald encouraged students to visually estimate lengths before cutting out the gingerbread men.

- Who is the tallest?

- Who is the shortest?

- If we were to put the gingerbread men in a line from tallest to shortest who would be first? Who would be second? Third?

Students cut out the gingerbread family and ordered them from tallest to shortest. The importance of making sure their feet are all in line when comparing heights were emphasized.

Never give up...

Room 4 is learning all about 'Perseverance'... We listened to a song 'Don't give up' and brainstormed ideas:

I don’t give up so I can grow my brain every day. How can we do it?

We can read to make our brain muscles bigger and bigger...
