Celebrating Matariki #3

Whaea Megan told tamariki that a part of celebrating Matariki is the sharing of kai. Just like we would celebrate our New Year.

To help us celebrate Matariki, we prepared and shared pumpkin soup and star bread rolls. Tamariki prepared the pumpkin soup to go into a slow cooker.

Preparing their 'star bread rolls'...

Tamariki used their woven place-mats to eat their kai off. Yummy!

Here's a photo of the last collaborative puzzle our tamariki finished.  If you look really close, you will see tamariki names displayed on each puzzle piece that they've worked on.

Celebrating Matariki #2

Tamariki did a quick 'recap' of a special time that will be celebrated in the holidays... Matariki.

Next tamariki started with learning the Matariki Macarena. Ms van der Spuy (who did the song and dance with us) chose two leaders, Bailey and Casey for students to follow so that they can learn the actions, because these two boys were really good.

Matua Mel then told our tamariki about today's activity... weaving!  He demonstrated the process, and away they went. It was so lovely to see tuakana/teina collaboration and tamariki using the virtues of 'Resilience', 'Helpfulness' and 'Co-operation'. Everyone manged themselves extremely well and showed great perseverance!

Here's a photo of one of the collaborative puzzles our tamariki finished. Whaea Megan very kindly displayed this on the staff room window. If you look really close, you will see tamariki names displayed on each puzzle piece that they've worked on.
