Buddy Reading Purpose

Room 4 participates every week in a tuakana/teina buddy reading session with Room 3. 

To ready ourselves for the next couple of weeks, we decided to look again at the purpose of buddy reading and what needs to be focused on. Ideas were brainstormed on what effective buddy reading looks like, sounds like and feels like.

Engaging with our Reading books

This week the students used 'Explain Everything' to capture their voice while practicing to talk about their favourite part in the book they have been reading.

Their next step would be to talk about other aspects of their reading book such as such as setting, time, characters, plot, ideas and themes.

Digital Citizenship / Cyber Safety #3

This week we reviewed key points from earlier learning that in life there are some people we cannot trust, while there are others we can. Students began to learn how to tell the difference between the two and to understand why some people can be trusted. To help them understand this concept we viewed the video from Hector's World 'It's a Serious Game'.

We finished the lesson by completing the ‘A person I trust is’ worksheet which asks them to draw a picture of a trusted adult in their life.

'Never Give Up' with KidsedchatNZ

Maths Problem: The Three Cold Kittens

The students were very busy with solving today's Maths Problem:

'Winter has set in. The three little kittens are very cold and they need mittens. Mother Cat decided to make mittens. It takes two balls of wool to make mittens for one kitten. How many balls of wool will Mother Cat need to make mittens for three little kittens?'

They had to:
- Count groups of two to 10
- Use equipment to model and add sets of twos

Room 4 learnt about the formation of curvy, bumpy, straight, zig zag, curly, closed, circle and square lines with our Visual Arts teacher, Whaea Jude.

Leaf stories

We went for a walk outside to look at all the leaves that have fallen down.  We discussed things such as what they looked like and thought of words to describe them.
