Te Reo Māori class #1

Today was our first day with Matua Tenia learning Te Reo Māori. We started our day with our usual karakia and then Matua Tenia taught the tamariki in Rooms 4 and 5 a 'greeting' waiata.

Tamariki learned:
  • Te Reo Māori is the language of Aotearoa
  • Te Ika a Māui - the fish of Māui (North Island)
  • Te Waka o Māui - the boat of Māui (South Island)
They listened to Matua Tenia telling them the story of Māui. Leading on from that there was a discussion about Tai ao (the environment) and tamariki learned about Ranginui (Sky father), Papatūānuku (Earth mother) and their tamariki.
Our tamariki then played some games:

1. Building puzzles...

2. Whano, whano...

3. Pukana...
